Privacy Policy

Introduction

Dog Thunder ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Dog Thunder iOS app, our website (dogthunder.com), and our web app (app.dogthunder.com) (collectively, the "Service").

The iOS app can be used without an account. The web app requires an account and therefore stores more information — see "Web App Accounts" below.

Information We Collect

Dog Thunder is designed with privacy in mind. We only collect minimal information necessary for the app to function:

How We Use Your Information

We collect and store a random device ID for your device, so we can match your preferences and deliver the service. We also store your zip code and your preferences for storm alerts - whether you want alerted for storms, or storms and heavy rain. We do not collect anything that would qualify as personal information, and we use the collected items solely to:

Data Storage and Protection

When you use the basic Dog Thunder iOS service, you do not need to make an account or provide anything other than your ZIP code, and we do not collect or store personally identifiable information. In that mode we do not share your information with any third parties, unless you opt in to receive SMS or email alerts, in which case we pass your phone number or email address to our sending service temporarily, solely for the purpose of sending you an alert; neither we nor the sending service store it longer than needed to deliver the message.

The web app works differently because it uses accounts and therefore stores more — see "Web App Accounts" below. Wherever we do store your information, we keep it encrypted on our own backend.

Web App Accounts

Our web app (app.dogthunder.com) requires an account, so it necessarily stores more than the account-free iOS service:

You can delete your account at any time from the web app's Settings. Deleting your account cancels any active subscription, permanently removes your profile and stored data from our backend, and deletes your associated sign-in account from Auth0.

Website Analytics

On our websites — dogthunder.com and the app.dogthunder.com web app, but not the iOS app — we use a privacy-focused, self-hosted analytics tool (Umami) to understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. This analytics tool is hosted on our own infrastructure and does not use cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not collect personally identifiable information. It records aggregate usage such as pages viewed, referring sites, approximate region, and the type of device and browser. We do not sell or share this data with third parties.

On a small, randomly sampled portion of website visits, we also record an anonymized session replay — a reconstruction of on-page interactions such as clicks, scrolling, and navigation — to help us diagnose usability problems. These replays are sampled (only a fraction of visits), capped in length, and captured with input masking enabled, so text you type (and similar input content) is hidden and not recorded. Session replays apply only to our websites and are never used on the iOS app.
